What is happening to the UK Economy?

Official figures on the UK economy might actually be concealing a much
deeper and potentially damaging slowdown than we are seeing in the
current data. Trading conditions on the high street and in the retail
malls are exceptionally difficult; the farming and transport industries
are being badly hit by the jump in the price of petrol and diesel. And
there is plenty of anecdotal evidence that consumer demand is softening
very rapidly as businesses face the double-whammy of falling demand and
higher costs.
